The Doctors shares the motivational story of Audrey, a mom who made food her medicine to lose 150 pounds in less than a year.
Audrey says she struggled with being overweight her entire life. “I was a size 10 when all the other girls were size twos, and I would always hear from everybody, ‘Oh, but you have such a pretty face,’” she says. “You start making fun of yourself. My self-confidence was completely in the gutter.”
Despite trying many different diets over the years, Audrey was never able to maintain long-term weight-loss results.
When Audrey was pregnant with her daughter, she was put on bed rest, which resulted in her gaining more than a healthy amount of pregnancy weight. “My heaviest, post-baby, was 278 pounds, and I’m 5’3”,” she explains. “I felt like I was walking around in a haze. I was just inadvertently killing myself with food.”
Audrey’s daughter became the driving force behind her mission to slim down once and for all. “I lost my mom when I was in college, so I really wanted to live a longer life. I wanted to be around for my daughter, so that I can meet my grandkids — something my mother never got the chance to do.”
While researching healthy weight loss methods online, Audrey came across a clean-eating cookbook. She started making her own meals using fresh, wholesome ingredients, and she cut out excess sugar and processed foods from her diet. “The very first week that I gave up just my diet sodas, I lost 10 pounds,” Audrey says. “That was, kind of, that ‘click’ moment where it all made sense. I should just bring my body back to nature, and let nature do the rest of the work.”
Over an 11-month span, Audrey lost nearly half of her body weight through dietary changes alone. “The weight just flew off. It was like I was finally giving my body what it truly needed,” she explains.
