Before You Retire in Placencia Belize, Check Out The Destination with a Stay at Chabil Mar

If you are planning on retiring in the not-too-distant future, you may have begun considering where you would like to spend your golden years. However, for many Americans and Canadians, the answer is quite simple – Placencia, Belize.

The region is already home to a large number of expats and retirees. This is due, in no small part, to its year-round sunshine and welcoming atmosphere. Of course, people who move to Placencia from the United States or Canada also appreciate the fact that English is widely spoken throughout Belize.

If you choose to retire to Placencia, you can expect to spend your days lounging at the beach, fishing in nearby lakes and rivers, or simply exploring the natural beauty of Belize. If you would prefer a more adventurous lifestyle in your retirement, you can even take up hiking, visit the ancient Maya temples, or even go zip lining or cave tubing in one of Belize’s many caves. Put simply, there are a lot of things to see and do in Belize – no matter what your preferred pastimes may be.

Despite the fact that it has been prominently featured on a number of international travel shows, Placencia remains a relatively small and laid-back destination. Indeed, Placencia is home to just one main street, as well as a small pedestrian-only walkway. You certainly won’t find any busy roads or large highways here.

With so much to offer, you might expect Placencia to be an extraordinarily expensive place to live. However, this is certainly not the case. In fact, most of the expats and retirees in the area would probably agree that the cost of living in Placencia is much more affordable than anything you might find in the United States or Canada.

If you think that Placencia might be your dream retirement destination, it is a good idea to spend some time there to scope out retirement homes or real estate opportunities that appeal to you.

While visiting, you can use the beautiful Chabil Mar Resort as your base of operations. The resort is situated right on the beach and features lush tropical gardens, luxury villas, two infinity pools, roaming butler services, a restaurant, a private pier, and much more. There is, quite simply, no better place to begin your Belizean adventure than at Chabil Mar.

Destiny Wagner is Miss Earth 2021 – Makes History For Belize

Destiny Wagner is Miss Earth 2021

The Miss Earth competition is more than just a beauty pageant. For two decades, its contestants have put a spotlight on the environmental challenges facing the modern world — and while its contestants are certainly all beautiful, they each come to the stage with their own nuanced and sophisticated stances on the issues. But this year’s competition holds special importance to the people of Belize. Destiny Wagner has been crowned Miss Earth 2021, and it’s the first time that a Belizean has won a major international beauty pageant.

There couldn’t be a more fitting recipient for Miss Earth. Despite having received her education in New York, Destiny has kept home close to her heart. She’s been the editor and primary contributor to “Belizean Blues”: a collection that places the spotlight on authors from Belize. But her investment in the Miss Earth competition is more than just a platform for her own brand. Destiny’s long been an ardent environmentalist, and she worked with Clear Water Aquarium in a manatee research study. It’s not her only passion project. Destiny’s family runs Operation Kingdom, a non-profit that looks to combat inequality by advocating for fair education and accessible meals for vulnerable youth.

The effects of climate change have a tendency to show their most disastrous and immediate impact on marginalized communities in less developed nations, but Destiny is hopeful that technology can serve as a lever for equality and a means to wrestle with the impact of climate change. She addressed the issue during her acceptance speech. “I am so thankful to live in a digital age right now. Because of technology, we are able to spread awareness of things that are happening not only in my country but in other countries as well.” Belize is a country that’s wrestled with the difficult task of balancing the sometimes conflicting needs of the economy with the need for conservation. The country is home to the Belize Barrier Reef — the second largest ecosystem of its kind behind Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Today, Belize has found a careful path forward, and sustainable eco-tourism is a cornerstone of the country’s success.

As Miss Earth 2022, Destiny will spend the next year promoting environmental initiatives and spreading awareness about the complicated effects it has on our environment and our societies.

The staff of Chabil Mar congratulate Destiny Wagner on her win, and we look forward to cheering on our new Miss Earth as she continues to make history for Belize.

What’s it like being surrounded by lush tropical gardens, gorgeous environs and a staff eager to satisfy every desire of honeymooning couples?

“Far exceeded anything we could have imagined,” enthused one pair of lovebirds who recalled the names of Darren, Sheldon, Luiz and Hector when writing their glowing review for TripAdvisor: “These guys perform at the highest levels of their profession.”

Having read this, you may wonder why we bring up the importance of staff. It’s because service can make or break a vacation and poor service can ruin an entire honeymoon, say bloggers writing for ITravel.net. Post-honeymoon Chabil Mar reviews are especially reassuring as you make your own plans.

The most important thing to do, say staffers, is to take advantage of resort packages because they take the stress out of figuring out where to go and what to do during a romantic stay. Chabil Mar employees urge you to make your wishes known the minute you arrive on the property. Don’t be shy. If your intention is to lay low for the entirety of your honeymoon, say so and you’ll be informed about all of the things you two can do to ensure the ultimate amount of privacy, like meals delivered to your suite and the best parts of Placencia to visit if you hope to run into the fewest number of people.

Don’t want to hide away?

Every amenity at Chabil Mar is at your disposal. There are two freshwater infinity swimming pools on site and both are tucked into lush gardens lining the Caribbean beachfront so you may have one of them all to yourself. The resort’s 400-feet of private beach offers you two room to spread out and if the urge for a cocktail strikes, the beach captain will appear as if by magic. He says he’s not clairvoyant, but honeymooners insist that his timing is perfect!

Visit Belize’s Fascinating Turneffe Atoll

Turneffe_Atoll_in_the_Rain

Belize is famous for its stunning offshore islands and atolls, and the Turneffe Atoll is one of the finest. This incredible destination is just a few miles from Placencia.

What Is the Turneffe Atoll?

An atoll is a ring of coral on the ocean’s surface. It differs from an island because it contains its own body of water.

Most of the world’s atolls are in the Pacific Ocean, but Belize has three of the four atolls in the Western Hemisphere. They are Glover’s Reef Atoll, Lighthouse Reef Atoll and Turneffe Atoll.

Why Is It Important?

Turneffe is one of the most diverse, critically important ecosystems in Belize. It has over 150 mangrove islands, littoral forest, saltwater flats and lagoons. It is a nesting and breeding site for dozens of rare and endangered fish, waterfowl and marine mammals. Sea turtles, manatees, crocodiles and whale sharks all find refuge in these waters.

The Belize Barrier Reef and its surrounding islands are important for Belize’s two biggest industries, eco-tourism and commercial fishing. Protection of these waters is crucial for Belize’s independent fishers and for Belize’s eco-tourism industry.

Why Should You Visit the Turneffe Atoll?

Like the other offshore cayes and atolls, Turneffe is breathtakingly beautiful with white sand beaches, lush tropical vegetation and clear blue water. With over 50 miles of coral reef, it is a magnet for snorkelers and scuba divers. Some of the world’s best dive sites are on this tiny island, and the legendary Blue Hole of Belize is only an hour and a half away by boat.

Visibility in the warm Caribbean waters can be as deep as 200 feet near Belize. Here’s your chance to see live coral, sea turtles, eels, reef fish, sharks, groupers, barracudas and much more.

10 Festive Reasons to Celebrate Christmas at Chabil Mar in Placencia Belize

1. You know you’ll be freezing cold in December and that just the thought of leaving your coat, hat, gloves and boots in the closet and trading all this gear for a bathing suit and flip flops is the best gift you could give yourself.

2. Belize is so close to major southern U.S. airports, you can hop a plane, even at the last minute, and spend your holiday amid the pageantry, festivities and laid-back adventures at Chabil Mar without suffering a minute of jet lag.

3. You’ve always wanted to spend Christmas in paradise. While friends plow through snow and traffic getting to Grandma’s for the holiday, you’re focused on identifying over 600 species of birds flying overhead in Belize. Don’t tease your mates by confiding that you’re perpetually surrounded by fragrant flora and fauna during your Chabil Mar stay.

4. Discover how it feels to lie in a hammock on Christmas day without a care in the world. Temperatures in Belize range between 71°F (22°C) and 80°F (27°C), averaging 75°F (24°C) in December. It’s not too cold. It’s not too hot. Perfect.

5. Spend Christmas exploring the past. Head for an ancient Maya ruin where you examine relics, artifacts and perhaps skeletal remains of those who lived in Belize before Christ was even born.

6. Book a Christmas Vacation that exposes you to the best Mother Nature has to offer: Visits to both a lush rainforest and the second longest barrier reef on the planet. These all inclusive Belize vacation packages are affordably priced so you could return home in less debt than family members who are broke from too much holiday gift shopping.

7. Let Chabil Mar staff treat you like a visiting dignitary. You already know the story of The Three Wise Men who followed a star to find Baby Jesus. Think of yourself as a wise traveler minus the camels when you arrive at Chabil Mar to find luxe rooms, special holiday menus and enough festivities in Placencia to give you plenty of Christmas spirit.

8. Surprise the one you love with a Christmas trip to Belize instead of buying him more “stuff.” Whether you choose to say “Happy Anniversary,” “Marry me!” or “Let’s renew our vows at this magical time of year,” you’ll find that Chabil Mar Resort is dressed in holiday finery to welcome you.

9. Start a tradition. Leave the snow, sleet and blizzards behind to start a scuba diving or snorkeling tradition in Belize. Remarkable spots off Placencia will thrill you even more than unwrapping gifts of sweaters and fruit cakes! Spending Christmas beneath the sea at the Great Barrier Reef makes an unforgettable holiday even better.

10. Do something daring. Get a head start on New Year’s by making resolutions that get you out of your comfort zone. Go cave tubing, zip lining, kayaking or canoeing. Be forewarned: Chabil Mar Staff will tempt you with so many choices, your head could spin. Or perhaps that’s just a vision of what awaits as you imagine yourself drinking champagne on the beach while contemplating the night sky on a typical Belize Christmas Eve!
