How to Pack for a Warm Winter Vacation in Belize

Planning a winter vacation to Belize means trading snow and cold for sunshine, blue skies, and warm Caribbean breezes. Whether you are visiting Placencia for Christmas, New Year celebrations, or a mid winter escape, preparing the right packing list helps you make the most of your sunny getaway. Belize’s winter months bring ideal weather for relaxing on the beach, exploring jungle trails, and snorkeling the Belize Barrier Reef, and a little thoughtful packing ensures you are ready for every moment.

Here are the top holiday travel tips for packing for a sunny Belize winter vacation.

Pack Light and Choose Breathable Clothing

Belize enjoys warm weather throughout the winter, so light and breathable clothing is essential. Cotton and linen are comfortable choices that help keep you cool under the Caribbean sun. Pack loose fitting shorts, sundresses, tank tops, and T shirts for daytime adventures. For evenings, bring casual resort wear such as a light skirt, collared shirt, or a breezy maxi dress.

While the weather stays warm, a light sweater or shawl can be helpful for cooler evenings or boating excursions. Many travelers find that they wear far less than expected, especially when their days are spent swimming, snorkeling, or sunbathing.

Swimwear and Beach Essentials

With beautiful beaches and bright sunshine, swimwear is a must. Bring at least two swimsuits so you always have a dry option ready. A light cover up, sun hat, and comfortable sandals are essential for beach days and strolls through Placencia Village.

Do not forget a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. Sunglasses with UV protection are also important for time spent on the water, especially during snorkeling and sailing tours when the reflection of the sun can be strong.

Sun Protection for the Tropics

what to pack for Belize

Belize’s winter sunshine is gentle yet bright, and proper sun care ensures your vacation is enjoyable from start to finish. Pack reef safe sunscreen to protect both your skin and the coral reefs you may visit during snorkeling trips. SPF lip balm, after sun lotion, and aloe gel are excellent additions to your travel kit.

For jungle hikes or visits to Maya ruins, consider bringing insect repellent and light long sleeved clothing for added protection.

Footwear for Every Adventure

 Belize winter travel essentials

Placencia offers both beach relaxation and outdoor exploration, so pack footwear that suits your plans. Flip flops or sandals are perfect for the resort and village. Water shoes are helpful for snorkeling trips or caye visits, where you may walk across shallow coral or sandy areas.

If you plan to explore waterfalls or rainforest trails, bring comfortable walking shoes with good grip. Belize’s terrain can be uneven, and proper footwear helps make every adventure safe and enjoyable.

Lightweight Gear for Snorkeling and Exploration

Tour operators provide snorkel gear, but many travelers prefer to bring their own mask for comfort. A small waterproof pouch or dry bag is useful for keeping valuables safe on boat trips. Binoculars add fun for wildlife watching during jungle adventures or early morning birding.

For travelers who enjoy photography, winter in Belize provides extraordinary natural light. A camera or waterproof phone case helps capture the color of the sea, the beauty of coral reefs, and the charm of Placencia Village.

Personal Items and Travel Comforts

Belize uses standard US outlets, so no power adapters are necessary. Bring chargers, a portable battery pack, and any prescriptions or personal toiletries you prefer. Most essentials can be found in Placencia, but having your favorites from home makes packing easier.

Above all, pack your sense of adventure. Belize offers some of the most unforgettable holiday experiences in the Caribbean, from snorkeling with sea turtles to dining under the stars on the beach at Chabil Mar.

Its white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and colorful marine life make it a dream for those who love the ocean. But what makes Placencia special is the way it blends natural beauty with authentic culture.

At the tip of the peninsula, Placencia Village invites visitors to slow down and savor life the Belizean way. Here, families stroll the famous Placencia Sidewalk, known as the narrowest main street in the world. Local artisans sell handcrafted art, while the rhythms of Garifuna drumming echo from beachside gatherings. Seafood shacks serve the day’s fresh catch, and smiling locals are always ready to share stories. Placencia is not just a place to visit; it is a place to belong.

WestJet & Air Canada Boost Service for Belize’s 2025-2026 Season

If Belize has been calling your name, the 2025-2026 winter season is your moment to answer. This year brings one of the most exciting developments yet for Canadian travelers: a major expansion of seasonal flights from WestJet and Air Canada, offering more options, more seats, and a longer travel season than ever before. With the ease of direct connections from Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal, getting to Placencia and Chabil Mar has never been simpler.

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has confirmed that WestJet will return to Belize starting October 30, 2025 — earlier than last season — and extend service through May 10, 2026. The airline’s decision to add Monday service during peak season will increase overall flight capacity by an impressive 45% compared to last year, ensuring more availability for travelers seeking a tropical escape.

 WestJet flights to Belize

From Calgary to Belize City, WestJet will operate twice weekly (Thursdays and Saturdays) from October 30 to December 14, 2025. Beginning December 15, the schedule increases to three times weekly (Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays) until April 12, 2026. Service then returns to twice weekly from April 13 to April 26, and once weekly on Saturdays until May 3.

From Toronto to Belize City, WestJet kicks off with two flights weekly from October 30 to November 9, 2025, before moving to three weekly flights from November 10 to December 14. The peak travel window — December 15, 2025, to April 12, 2026 — will see four flights a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays). After April 12, service scales back to three times weekly until April 26, two weekly flights until May 3, and finally one weekly Saturday flight until May 10.

Air Canada is also making waves this season with the launch of its first-ever Montreal to Belize City direct route. This new connection begins December 8, 2025, and will run until March 2, 2026, before resuming from March 9 to April 6. Flights will depart Montreal at 5:45 PM and arrive in Belize City at 9:05 PM, giving travelers plenty of time to enjoy a comfortable evening check-in at their resort.

Few places on Earth balance land, sea and culture the way Placencia, Belize does. Stretching like a golden ribbon for 16 miles between the Caribbean Sea and the Placencia Lagoon, the peninsula offers a stunning duality. The sun rises over the reef and sets over the Maya mountains.  The cultural heart of the Peninsula is located in the colorful fishing Village of Placencia, a lively, welcoming local island vibe at the end of the Peninsula, aka, The Point, where you will find art studios, beach bars, the football (soccer) field, schools and local beach bars/restaurants.
Placencia Belize

Your headquarters for a Placencia immersion

Despite a small population and landmass, Placencia is one of the most authentically Belizean destinations you’ll find, so investing time in learning about the day-to-day lives of residents in addition to availing yourself of adventure tours offers visitors an amazing opportunity to dig deep into this society.

•Visit a cacao farm to learn all about how these beans are grown and what processes are required to turn them into the world’s favorite delicacy. Though an agricultural experience, you may also want to work off the chocolate you sample by swimming in a pool beneath a waterfall or risking all on a ziplining adventure.

Belize Cultural Tourism

•Take a foodie tour. Indulge your inner gourmet by discovering the recipes, heritage, and mysteries of cuisines that represent Belize’s diverse populace.

•Tour a spice farm. You’ll be enlightened by the growers you meet and the opportunity to learn about how spices are curated for inclusion in Belize cuisine could change the way you cook back home.

•Take a deep dive into one of Belize’s most prominent societies: The Garifuna. From sampling a classic plate full of the traditional specialty “hudut” made with mashed plantains to drumming lessons that introduce you to the enticing beat of this music scene, you’re going to love this immersion most of all!

There’s so much more to taste, see, hear, and do, that you’ll wonder why you haven’t fallen in love with experiential travel before now — especially since Belize is located close to home and everyone speaks English.
